NYIKA WHITE CONTINUES TO ROLL AT NCAA MEN'S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

WEST POINT, NY - Temple senior Nyika White, the nation's top ranked collegiate gymnast on rings and two-time All-American on the apparatus, posted the top score in the event during Friday evening's team and all-around portion of the 2005 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships hosted by Army. White registered a 9.850 score, marking the second straight day he had the session's top rings performance, and will compete in Saturday evening's event finals at Christl Arena.

 

David Ramos turned in a 51.275 during Friday's all-around final to place tied for 13th. The senior scored 9.125 in the floor exercise, 7.950 on pommel horse, 8.050 on rings, 8.725 on vault, 8.775 on parallel bars and a 9.10 on high bar to accrue the total. Freshman Sterling Kramer finished tied for 44th on high bar with an 8.450.

 

White is the lone Owl competing in Saturday evening's event finals. He seeks to become Temple's 15th NCAA individual event national champion. White finished second on rings at last year's NCAA Championships and third in the event as a sophomore at the Liacouras Center in 2003.

 

Saturday's event finals are slated to get underway at 7:00 p.m.
