FORMER TEMPLE GYMNAST NYIKA WHITE TO COMPETE AT VISA CHAMPIONSHIPS

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Former Temple gymnast Nyika White tied for first on rings at the US Gymnastics Championships qualifier on June 25. With the effort, the Williamston, N.C. native advances to the 2005 VISA Championships, to be held August 10-13 in Indianapolis, Ind.

 

White and former Penn State gymnast Kevin Tan both advanced as rings only qualifiers to the Visa Championships. A total of 28 male gymnasts between the junior and senior divisions qualified to advance to the Championships.

 

A two time rings All-American, White concluded his Temple career by placing 10th on the apparatus at the 2005 NCAA Championships. He finished second on rings at the 2004 NCAA Championships and third as a sophomore in 2003.

 

White entered the 2005 NCAA Championships as the top-ranked collegiate gymnast on rings with a 9.775 qualifying average after winning the 2005 ECAC-EIGL rings title on March 26. The title marked his second conference rings crown after taking the title as a sophomore in 2003.
