Fellow newcomer John Vogtman also performed well, finishing second on rings with an 8.20 score and second on horizontal bar with a 7.45 effort. Senior team co-captain Brian Forquer placed second on parallel bars with a 7.50 score and sophomore Nate Naisby earned second on vault with an 8.60 performance to help fuel the win. Forquer also competed all-around, garnering a 45.35 total.

Despite the loss, JMU turned in several fine individual performances. Lucas Buchholz won both the rings (8.40) and parallel bars (7.75). Teammates Ryan Hikel and Derrick Holbert, captured the vault and horizontal bar, respectively, with 8.65 and 7.55 scores. Stirling Van Winkle posted a 7.60 on pommel horse to share the event title with Illes.
