OWLS GET TRUMPED BY THE TRIBE IN WILLIAMSBURG

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The No. 14 Temple men's gymnastics team missed a prime opportunity the move up in the national rankings late Sunday afternoon, as it suffered a 202.725-199.850 dual meet loss to No. 13 William & Mary at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe outscored the Owls in four of six events to earn the victory.

 

Temple captured the floor exercise with a 33.550 score and the vault competition with a 36.650 total. Sophomore Luke Vexler won the floor with a 9.05 effort and was also the team's top performer on horizontal bar with an 8.60 score, placing second. Sophomore Sterling Kramer and freshman John Vogtman also performed well for the Cherry & White, sharing the win on pommel horse with 8.65 scores. Vogtman was also TU's top finisher on vault and rings, respectively, finishing second with a 9.05 score and third with an 8.60 showing. Kramer was the lone Owl to compete all-around, placing second with a 47.45 total.

 

The Owls continued to struggle on parallel bars, with the Tribe earning a 33.55-31.55 win. Temple's top competitor in the event was sophomore Andy Corp, who finished fifth with an 8.00 performance.

 

William & Mary's Ramon Jackson won the rings (9.30), vault (9.225) and parallel bars (8.70), as teammate Dave Locke captured the crown on horizontal bar with a 9.0 score.

 

Temple (1-2), under the direction of 30th-year head coach Fred Turoff, returns to action next weekend, January 27-28, at the West Point (N.Y.) Open.
