VEXLER LEADS OWLS TO THIRD PLACE TEAM FINISH AT WEST POINT OPEN

WEST POINT, NY -- Sophomore Luke Vexler won the floor exercise and placed first all-around to lead Temple to a third place finish in the team competition with a 197.050 score Friday evening at the West Point Open. The Open resumes Saturday evening at Christl Arena with individual event finals as Vexler qualified on four of six events.
Seven college's and three clubs competed in Friday evening's preliminary round and team portion, with No. 7 Penn State earning its fourth straight Open victory, posting a 206.800 score and winning four events. The host Black Knights, ranked No. 13, placed second with a 199.500 total. The No. 15 Owls finished ahead of No. 10 Navy (4th, 196.550) and No. 16 Springfield (6th, 182.700).
Vexler captured the floor with a 9.250 score and was the night's best all-arounder with 50.750 total. He also placed third on both the rings (8.60) and horizontal bar (8.650), while finishing tied for sixth on parallel bars (8.050) to advance to event finals in four events.
Freshman John Vogtman earned a fifth place showing on parallel bars with an 8.100 score and finished tied for eighth on rings (8.500). Junior Clay Stewart captured fourth on floor with a 9.00 score and sophomore Andy Corp placed tied for sixth on parallel bars with an 8.050 performance.
The top eight finishers on each event, including ties, advanced to Saturday evening's finals.
