WEST POINT, NY -- Temple sophomore Luke Vexler won the floor exercise with an 8.850 score during event finals at the West Point Open at Christl Arena Saturday evening. Vexler, who won the all-around competition Friday night, also finished tied for third on pommel horse (8.250), third on horizontal bar (8.750) and tied for fifth on parallel bars (8.100) Saturday evening.
Sophomore Andy Corp placed fourth on parallel bars with an 8.150 score, while junior Clay Stewart earned fifth in the floor exercise with an 8.300 effort. Freshman John Vogtman finished eighth on rings with an 8.350 showing and seventh on parallel bars with a 7.950 score, as four Owls advanced to Saturday evening's event finals.
Penn State's Tommy Ramos won three events, capturing the horizontal bar (9.200), rings (9.750) and parallel bars (9.050). His teammate, Derek Helsby, won the pommel horse with a 9.150 score, while Army's Anthony Morales captured the vault (9.450).
Temple placed third in the team competition Friday night. Seven colleges and three clubs competed in the Open, with Penn State capturing the team title and host Army finishing second.
The Owls, under the direction of 30th-year head coach Fred Turoff, return to action at the Winter Cup Challenge, February 2-4, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
