STERLING KRAMER COMPETES AT WINTER CUP CHALLENGE

2.3.06 | Men's Gymnastics

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Temple sophomore Sterling Kramer finished 44th all-around in the preliminary round of the Winter Cup Challenge Friday at All Sports Arena, falling just two positions short of qualifying to Saturday evening's all-around finals. Kramer is one of the United States' 80 top male gymnasts invited to compete in the Challenge, which determines 14 members of the 2006 Men's Senior National Team.

Kramer is the only Owl competing at the Challenge, which utilizes a new scoring system that incorporates credit for the routine's content and execution. A gymnast's score is no longer limited to a maximum of 10. Utilizing the new scoring, Kramer posted an 12.650 on floor exercise (t-53rd), a 12.250 on pommel horse (51st), a 10.900 on rings (58th), a 15.300 on vault (t-46th), a 13.350 on parallel bars (t-30th) and a 12.350 on horizontal bar.

Kramer's all-around score was 76.800, one point shy of the 42nd place all-around score of 77.800. The top 42 gymnasts advanced to Saturday evening's all-around finals.

Based on the competition's results, the top six from the all-around finals automatically qualify for the 2006 senior national team. Six more gymnasts will qualify based on a points system established by the Men's Program Committee. The Men's Program Committee will select the remaining two gymnasts.
