TEMPLE WINS NEW ENGLAND GYMNASTICS INVITATIONAL

3.12.06 | Men's Gymnastics

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Temple won the 2006 New England Men's Gymnastics Invitational Championships at Springfield College's Blake Arena on Sunday afternoon with a score of 202.450. The 13th-ranked Owls were led by sophomore Luke Vexler, who placed in five events en route to winning the all-around competition with a 50.000 total. Vexler was victorious in the vault and placed third on the high bar with scores of 9.200 and 8.250, respectively.


Temple
put on a dominant performance, earning first place finishes in five of six events. Sophomore Alex Gorski won the floor exercise with a score of 8.750. Also winning for the Cherry and White was junior Dan Berlin on pommel horse (8.650), sophomore Sterling Kramer on parallel bars (8.750) and senior Brian Forquer on horizontal bar (8.400).


Freshman John Vogtman was Temple's top performer on rings, earning second with an 8.700 showing.


Host Springfield placed second with a 185.200 score, a mere 1.3 points ahead of third place M.I.T. (183.900). Pride senior Andrew Malaby captured the rings with an 8.750 performance.


Temple
(13-6), under the direction of 30th-year head coach Fred Turoff, returns to action at No. 14-ranked Navy in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday, March 18. The Owls have not suffered a loss since placing second behind Stanford in a quad meet at McGonigle Hall on February 18.
