ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The 13th-ranked Temple men's gymnastics team suffered a 206.250-203.150 loss at No. 15 Navy in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Macdonough Hall. The loss drops the Owls' record to 13-7 and marks their first defeat since they finished second behind Stanford in quad meet at McGonigle Hall, exactly a month ago on February 18.

Despite the setback, Temple's team score was its second-highest total of the season, just shy of the 203.850 the team posted in a win at Illinois-Chicago.

Freshman John Vogtman performed like a veteran once again for the Cherry and White, winning the pommel horse with an 8.750 score, while placing second on the parallel bars (8.450) and tied for fourth on vault. Sophomore Sterling Kramer was also stellar, earning the victory on parallel bars with an 8.800 showing, while finishing third on horizontal bar (8.850) and tied for fourth on vault with Vogtman (9.000).

Clay Stewart was Temple's top competitor on floor exercise (2nd, 9.050), Brian Forquer paced the team on rings (2nd, 8.800) and Alex Gorski was the Owls' top finisher on vault (2nd, 9.100).

Temple won two team events, capturing the pommel horse (33.350) and the parallel bars (33.650).

Navy had four individual event winners, as well as the all-around champion. Kramer was the only TU gymnast to compete all-around and finished third with a 50.600 total.

The Owls, under the direction of 30th-year head coach Fred Turoff, return to action and to Annapolis next weekend to compete in the ECAC/EIGL Men's Gymnastics Championships. The team and all-around competition takes place on Saturday, March 25, followed by the individual event finals on Sunday, March 26. The action begins at 3 p.m. on both days and tickets can be purchased at the gate during each day. Admission for adults is $10 per session and $15 for all-championship.
