ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Temple sophomore Sterling Kramer captured the all-around title with a 51.30 total as the Owls finished third with a 203.180 score Saturday afternoon at the 2006 ECAC Men's Gymnastics Championships at Macdonough Hall. Tenth-ranked William & Mary won the team title with a 206.130 effort and host Navy, the nation's 15th-ranked team, placed second (203.780). The Championships conclude Sunday with event finals beginning at 3:00 p.m., as the top eight finishers (including ties) in each event advanced.

Despite the Owls' third place finish, the team's score elevates the squad into the NCAA Championhips in Norman, Oklahoma. Temple entered ECAC's ranked 13th nationally with a 202.867 average. Illinois-Chicago entered the Championships ranked 12th with a 202.925 average, but placed fifth with a 199.300 score. As such, the Owls will surpass the Flames in the final regular season rankings and earn the 12th and final berth to NCAAs.

Seven Owls advanced to Sunday. Kramer will compete in three events after placing second on both vault (9.200) and parallel bars (8.650), while earning a tie for eighth on pommel horse (8.250) Saturday. Freshman John Vogtman advanced in two events, placing tied for sixth on parallel bars (8.300) and seventh on pommel horse (8.300).

Sophomore Luke Vexler was Saturday's top competitor on floor exercise with a 9.250 score and placed sixth all-around with a 49.700 total. Clay Stewart (2nd floor exercise, 9.100), Dan Berlin (4th pommel horse, 8.500), Brian Forquer (6th rings, 8.800) and Alex Gorski (t-7th vault, 8.950) also advanced to Sunday's event finals.

The Owls will have representatives in five of six events on Sunday. The team did not have a qualifier on high bar, as Kramer provided the Owls' top finish in the event with a tie for 12th (8.350).

Kramer entered the Championships as the nation's 20th-ranked all-arounder with a 47.383 scoring average.
