PHILADELPHIA -- The
"We kept it very basic today," said Golden. "This was a final test on some situations to see what the players have learned. We need to get healthy and be ready for summer camp, that's our next hurdle.
"Overall, I am really excited about how we performed this spring. I think the team learned a lot about how to practice and set a tempo. The kids have come a long way. It is not a function of doing it for one or two days, however, it's a function of making it our culture. The organization, the culture and the expectations are in place, so now we just have to move forward."
Many of the Saturday's highlights came courtesy of the defense. Senior defensive back Michael Loveland, a converted wide receiver, notched an interception on the third play of the scrimmage. Sophomore defensive linemen Alston Smith and Terrance Knighton also performed well for the Cherry, posting multiple sacks against an offensive line somewhat depleted by injuries. Smith had four tackles-for loss, including three sacks. Linebackers Ryan Gore and Keith Holt also found their way into the white backfield. Gore had three TFLs and one sack, while Holt twice brought down the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
The intra-squad affair marked the 15th practice session of the spring for the Cherry & White. The 2006 spring award winners will be announced at a team meeting to be held this Monday (April 24) afternoon.
