LATE SCRATCH ENABLES KRAMER TO ADVANCE AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORMAN, OK -- Temple's Sterling Kramer, who fell just shy of advancing on horizontal bar during the preliminary qualifier on Thursday evening, gained new life when a late withdrawal enabled the sophomore to compete Friday night during team and all-around finals of the NCAA Championships.

One of the initial qualifiers on horizontal bar suffered an injury during warm-ups and was forced to withdraw, extending to position Kramer. Unfortunately, just 10 minutes remained in the warm-up and Kramer was unable to practice on the apparatus. As a member of the travel party returned to the team hotel to obtain Kramer's gear, he marched-in during introductions wearing head coach Fred Turoff's Temple warm-ups.

Kramer was able to stretch and do pommel horse in the auxiliary room. He did a "cold set" on horizontal bar during the sixth rotation and performed well, given the circumstances, scoring a 7.750. Although the score was not enough to advance Kramer to Saturday evening's event finals, the performance was definitely memorable and one of the more gutsy displays of the Championships.

Host Oklahoma won its second straight national title Friday night behind Jonathan Horton, who had career-best scores on parallel bars and horizontal bar to win the all-around crown.
