Eleven Temple Men's Gymnasts Receive Academic Honors

PHILADELPHIA- 11 Temple men's gymnasts have been named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the College Gymnastics Association. As a whole, the squad ranked eighth in the nation on the list of national academic team, thanks to a combined 3.124 grade point average.

Of the 71 athletes who received first team All-American Scholar Athlete recognition, six represent the Cherry and White. The Temple honorees are as follows; Andy Corp (3.73), Jason Russo (3.68), John Vogtman (3.65), Derek Shepard (3.6), Rob Kay (3.57) and Dan Berlin (3.55). 48 athletes received second team honors for GPAs between 3.2 and 3.499. The Temple athletes who received this honor include; Pat McLaughlin (3.44), Nick Iles (3.42), Nadov Simenauer (3.28), Greg Monaco (3.26) and Sterling Kramer (3.21).

Ohio State was named Academic Team Champion for their 3.4 GPA, beating out Stanford who has ranked no. 1 the last four years. Stanford finished second (3.36), with Navy (3.207), M.I.T. (3.189) and Michigan (3.155) finishing out the top five. William and Mary (3.137) and California (3.128) placed 6th and 7th respectively. Ranking below Temple were Illinois (3.1) and Springfield (2.977) to round out the top 10.
