Women's Cross Country Opens Season At Monmouth

LINCROFT, NJ - Sophomore transfer Marissa Murtaugh led the Temple women's cross country team with a eighth place finish at the Monmouth Cross Country Kickoff on Saturday at Thompson Park. The West Chester, Pa. native, who spent her freshman year at UNC Wilmington, covered the 4k course in a time of 15:29.0.
Senior Noelle McKenzie was the second Owl to cross the finish line, placing 18th in a time of 16:05.0. Freshman Rebecca Mims (16:16.0) and classmate Paige Layng (16:16.8) finished 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Senior Cari Ann Gerbino (37th, 16:57.8) and freshman Jen Berman (39th, 17:01.7) rounded out the Owls' top five runners.
Albany (39 points) edged host Monmouth (44) to win the team title. Wagner (99) was third, followed by Temple (106), Georgian Court (119), Felician (149), Long Island (229) and Drew (232). Albany's Laura Cummings won the individual title in a time of 14:15.8.
The Cherry and White is back in action on Saturday at the Fordham Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park.
