Owls Finish First At West Point Open

West Point, N.Y. - It was a fantastic start to the 2008 campaign for the Temple men's gymnastics, as the #11 ranked Owls finished first among all collegiate teams at the 17th Annual West Point Open Friday evening.
The Cherry and White tallied a 339.55-point team total for the evening. The Owls trailed only Team Gattaca for the competition, which is a club team comprised of several former NCAA Championship gymnasts. Gattaca scored a 347.10 for the event.
Along with the solid team showing, several Temple individuals performed well enough to qualify for the event finals on Saturday evening.
Three Owls finished in the top ten of the all-around, with senior Luke Vexler finishing tied for second with 89.50, junior John Vogtman placing seventh with a tally of 84.10 and senior Sterling Kramer finishing ninth with a tally of 83.05.
The Cherry and White also excelled in the P bars, where Vexler finished second with a 14.70, Kramer finished third with a 14.65, senior Andy Corp finished fourth with a tally of 14.60 and Vogtman placed seventh by compiling a 14.00.
Three Owls also qualified in the vault, where sophomore Scott Bloomfield finished tied for fourth with a 15.50, Vexler was seventh with a 15.25 and sophomore Tyler Croteau was eighth with a 15.10.
In the H bars, Corp placed eighth with a tally of 14.25 while Scott Bloomfield finished 10th with a 14.15. In the floor, Vogtman came in third with a 14.50, while Vexler finished eight with 14.20 and Croteau was ninth with a 14.15.
In the rings, junior Jason Russo led the Owls with a tally of 14.40, good for eighth. Vogtman finished ninth with a 14.30 while Vexler was 12th with a score of 14.10.
