Three Gymnasts Advance to Finals as Owls Compete at NCAA Championships

STANFORD, CA - Seniors Luke Vexler, Sterling Kramer and sophomore Scott Bloomfield all advanced to the individual finals as the Temple men's gymnastics team competed at the NCAA Championships last evening.

Two weeks removed from winning their second consecutive ECAC Championship, the #13 Owls finished with a score of 333.00, good for 12th place overall. Since the Owls failed to finish in the top of top of their session, the team did not advance to the team championship.

Vexler advanced to the finals in the in all-around, as he scored a 84.650 and finished fifth in his session last evening. His fifth place finish was the highest of any Owl during the qualifying round. Kramer advanced on the parallel bars, scoring a 14.450 and finishing tied for 14 in the event. Bloomfield scored a 15.450 on the vault, good for 15th place and a spot in the finals. The three Owls advancing to the finals tops last season's total of two at the NCAA Championship.

Stanford finished the day with the highest team score, using the home advantage to score a season-high 363.850. The Cardinal took home first place for the session followed by Illinois, (359.3), California (357.1) in the second session. In the first session Oklahoma, defending champion Penn State, and Michigan and all qualified for the finals.

The Owls will look to pick up individual titles when they return to the mats tonight at 7:00 p.m.
