Men's Gymnastics Takes Third at Season-Opening West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Beginning the quest for its third consecutive ECAC crown, the No.11 Temple men's gymnastics team finished in third place at the season-opening West Point Open on Friday night.
In the individual preliminaries, junior John Vogtman qualified for the event finals in the pommel horse (14.1) and rings (13.8), while junior Pat McLaughlin qualified for the finals in the rings (14.1) and parallel bars (14.25). On vault, sophomore Scott Bloomfield reached the event finals with a 15.65.
As a team, the Owls (4-1) finished with a score of 328.05, trailing; No. 5 Penn State (345.2) and Navy (329.15). Coming in behind the Cherry and White were three teams from the ECAC: Springfield (326.2), Army (317.75) and MIT (312.9).
The top eight in each of the six events will compete for the individual titles Saturday evening, 7 p.m., at Christl Arena at West Point.
