Matt Martin Named ECAC Men's Gymnastics Rookie of the Week

Freshman Matt Martin of the Temple men's gymnastics team has been named the ECAC Men's Gymnastics Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Bow, N..H. native competed in five events at the Navy Open in Annapolis on Saturday and again at home on Sunday against Air Force. At the Navy Open, he placed in the top 10 on four events(FX/14.1),((R/13.85),(V/15.0),((HB/14.0), counting on four of five events for the Owls. At home on Sunday in the Owls' win over Air Force, he scored 68.30 for five events and again counted for the Owls on four events.
Martin received his early training at Gymnastics Village in New Hampshire under Igor Kniazev and was a USA age group champion on rings(14-15) and placed 10th all-around at the Junior Olympics.
The Owls return to action tomorrow at Illinois-Chicago. Action is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
