Mollon Solid In Net As Men's Soccer Battles To Draw With Fordham

11.1.09 | Men's Soccer

Redshirt-junior keeper makes six first half saves to preserve shutout

Bronx, NY – Up against Atlantic 10 leading Fordham (8-6-3, 5-1-2 in A-10), the Temple men's soccer team (8-5-2, 3-3-1 in A-10) needed a solid first half effort from keeper Bret Mollon to maintain a 0-0 tie.

The Rams tested Mollon early, threatening with six shots on goal in the first half. The Owls' net minder was up to the task, stopping any Fordham attack, and eventually making eight saves on the game.

After a slow first half being out shot 6-3, the Cherry and White locked down the defense only allowing one shot on goal. Three attempts from the Owls would make Rams keeper Ryan Meara earn his keep, still the game remained deadlocked at 0-0.

In overtime, the Owls were hungry for victory, but could not capitalize on any of their chances. TU out shot their foe 7-1 over the two overtime stanzas, but could not find the back of the net.

The Cherry and White continue their march toward the A-10 playoffs when they wrap up regular season play with Saint Louis on November 6th (2:00 p.m.) and nationally-ranked Charlotte on Senior Day, November 8th (1:00 p.m.).
