Men take first top-10, women debut in 24th
Princess Ann, MD – Continuing their successes, the Temple men's and women's cross country teams took school-best ninth and 24th place overall finishes, respectively, at the NCAA Regional Championships, Saturday afternoon at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Ann, MD.
“Both of our teams performed extremely well,” commented coach Matt Jelley. “For the men to beat out some of the top programs in our region was huge. The women were competed at Regionals for the first time, and did a really nice job beating out a few teams.”
Led by senior Adin Mickle (34th), the men topped some heavy hitters in the region, beating out Maryland (10th), Penn (12th), Pittsburgh (14th), and Penn State (18th). Their first-ever top-10 finish came in a very competitive field of 28 teams.
Junior Eddie Penetar was the Owls second best finisher (39th), followed by junior Mike May (46th), sophomore Travis Mahoney (52nd), and junior Eric Conklin (123rd).
In their Regionals debut, the women were again led by junior Rebecca Mims (98th), followed by freshman Diedre MacFarland (152nd), sophomore Eva Sepulveda (157th), freshman Jenny Abercrumbie (177th), and sophomore Karrie Finn (178th).
“The results today were huge for our program,” commented coach Eric Mobley. “This caps off a really great season for both of our teams.”
