Sophomore nets two goals in rainy win
Ambler, Pa. – Sophomore Niki Conn netted two goals in the Temple women's soccer teams' (3-1-1) 2-1 win over Wagner Friday afternoon at rain-soaked Ambler Sports Complex. Leading 1-0 for much of the game thanks to an early tally by Conn, the sophomore netted the game winner in the 82nd minute of the contest.
Getting things started was no easy task in the wet conditions, but freshman Kate Yurkovic gave the Owls the spark they needed. Yurkovic chipped a pass over the Wagner defense for Conn who beat Wagner keeper Sam Schueschner top left.
The score would remain 1-0 until the 80th minute, when Wagner senior Dominique Bonura found the back of the net from 20 yards out to deadlock the game at 1-1.
Head coach David Jones rallied his troops and quickly regained momentum with a corner minutes later.
Off of the corner, junior Julia Adden blasted a shot off of the crossbar from 25 yards out, nearly netting the game winner herself. Conn was in the right place for the rebound, knocking home the go-ahead goal for the eventual 2-1 victory.
TU out shot the Seahawks by a margin of 17-8.
Freshman goalkeeper Gillian Kacsuta notched her third win of the season, making one save.
The Cherry and White are home again on Sunday, September 13 when they take on Albany at 1:00 p.m.
