Cross Country Opens Season At Haverford Duals

Conklin places second for men, Mims runs third for the women
Haverford, Pa. – The Temple men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2009 season at the Haverford Duals Tuesday evening. The Owls posted two top five finishes on each side, with junior Eric Conklin and sophomore Ben Thomas running second and third for the men and senior Rebecca Mims and freshman Katherine Frank finishing third and fourth for the women.
“Both of our teams turned in solid times today,” commented second-year head coach Eric Mobley, “This is just an early sign of the strides the team and program have made to be competitive each time we race.”
Conklin turned the fastest time of the day for TU, running a 15:21.50 pace over the three-mile course. Following closely, Thomas ran the hill-and-dale in a time of 15:26.20. Also finishing in the top ten for the men were senior Adin Mickle (6th, 15:43.00), sophomore Geoff Bartletta (7th, 15:43.80), sophomore Brian Ledeler (8th, 15:45.10), and sophomore David Walters (9th, 15:45.40).
Other notable times were turned in by sophomore Dan Carreon (12th, 16:05.00), junior Clarke Hunt (24th, 16:32.10) and sophomore Roswell Friend (25th, 16:33.80).
For the women, Mims ran time of 19:19.00 while Frank finished the course in a time of 19:26.60.
Also placing in the top ten was sophomore Karrie Finn, clocking in at 19:33.60. Other notable performances were had by junior Assata Cowart (21st, 20:37.70), freshman Jennifer Abercrumbie (23rd, 20:53.80), and junior Tashima Stephens (34th, 21:50.80).
Next up for the Owls is the Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday, September 19.
