Owls to play school record-tying 31 regular season games

PHILADELPHIA - Visits by Xavier and Dayton, the two Atlantic 10 Conference teams that joined 2009 champion Temple in the NCAA Tournament, highlight the Owls 2009-10 A-10 men's basketball schedule that was announced today by the league office. This completes the slate, which includes a school record-tying 31 regular season games for the two-time defending conference champions.

“This is a tremendous conference schedule for Temple basketball and features the A-10's premier programs at the Liacouras Center,” Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said.

The Owls open their A-10 season at home against conference and city-rival Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, January 6.  Besides the Hawks, Massachusetts (Jan. 16), Xavier (Jan. 20), La Salle (Jan. 30), Duquesne (Feb. 3), Rhode Island (Feb. 13), Dayton (Feb. 24) and George Washington (Mar. 6) round out the home portion of the conference schedule.

Temple will travel to Rhode Island (Jan. 10), Fordham (Jan. 23), Charlotte (Jan. 27), Richmond (Feb. 6), St. Bonaventure (Feb. 17), Saint Joseph's (Feb. 20), La Salle (Feb. 28) and Saint Louis (Mar. 3).   The Owls play each conference foe once with home-and-home contests against La Salle, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's.

The non-conference schedule, announced in July, includes visits from 2009 NCAA Final Four participant Villanova and 2008 National Champion Kansas to the Liacouras Center.  Temple opens the season with a visit to Delaware on Nov. 14 to kick-off the Philly Hoop Group Classic. The event continues against Siena, which has won NCAA Tournament games in consecutive seasons, on Nov 21 at the Liacouras Center. The tournament concludes on Thanksgiving weekend with games against Virginia Tech (Nov. 27) and St. John's (Nov. 28) at The Palestra.

The Cherry and White will host NIT Champion Penn State on Dec. 5 and hit the road against Big East opponents Georgetown (Nov. 17) and Seton Hall (Dec. 19), and Big 5 rival Penn (Jan. 13).

As part of its Mid-American Conference agreement, TU will host Ball State (Nov. 24) and Bowling Green (Dec. 28) and visit Western Michigan (Dec. 1), Miami-OH (Dec. 8) and Northern Illinois (Dec. 30).
