Men’s Gymnastics Hosts Illinois-Chicago & SUNY Brockport In Home Opener Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Competing in McGonigle Hall for the first time this season, the Temple men's gymnastics team opens at home as the eleventh-ranked team in the nation. The Owls are celebrating Alumni Homecoming as they host 13th-ranked Illinois-Chicago and SUNY Brockport on Sunday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m.
Temple is off to a hot start to the 2010 season, boasting a second place team performance at the season opening West Point Open and taking first at the Navy Open the following weekend. The Cherry and White is averaging an EIGL-best 335.600 team points through its first two meets.
Individually, senior Patrick McLaughlin has been a standout performer for the Cherry and White. Earning ECAC Men's Gymnast of the Week for the week ending January 18, McLaughlin ranks ninth in the country with an all-around average of 85.950.
Junior Blake Collins is not far behind, posting the nations 16th-best all-around average (84.050). Both McLaughlin and Collins rank first and second in the conference, respectively.
Illinois-Chicago arrives to North Broad Street with several individuals owning conference best performances. Led by lone senior Andrew Stover, the 13th-ranked Flames possess top individual season averages in pommel horse, rings, vault, and parallel bars. Freshman David Ishida is having a solid debut, bringing in ECAC Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending January 18.
SUNY Brockport ranks third amongst club teams with a team total season average of 269.075.
