NEEDHAM, Mass. - Announced by the College Gymnastics Association today, the Temple men's gymnastics team is ranked 11th in the NCAA men's gymnastics preseason coaches poll.  The Owls nearly found their way into the top ten, and edged out conference rival Illinois-Chicago.

"I am happy to be listed in the top 12, but we aim to finish higher this season and my guys are motivated to do so," said Temple head coach Fred Turoff.

Stanford and Michigan each recieved the same number of first place votes, with Stanford being given the number one spot.  Oklahoma recieved two first place votes, being ranked third.  Illinois-Champaign, California-Berkley, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa round out the top 10.

Temple returns 18 athletes from last year's squad, including 2009-10 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's At-Large Performer of the Year Patrick McLaughlin and ECAC individual champions Scott Bloomfield and Taylor Brana.

The Cherry and White open the 2010-11 season at the West Point Open on January 14-15.
