STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Temple women's cross country team raced against the nation's best, including No. 1 Villanova, at the Penn State National on Saturday afternoon. The Owls, led by freshman Stephanie Dorantes, placed 30th overall as a team in a highly-competitive field.
Dorantes, one of two freshman running for TU, placed 146th in a team-best time of 23:28.
Senior Rebecca Mims turned in the second-best time for the Owls on the day, finishing the 6,000-meter race in a time of 23:45 (161st). It was the first time in over a year that Mims was not the Owls' top finisher in a meet.
Freshman Sarah Rutter ran a time of 23:48 to round out the Owls' top-three, placing 162nd.
Sophomore Katherine Frank (24:39, 194th), senior Jennifer Berman (25:02, 207th), sophomore Rayna Kratchman (25:23, 214th) and sophomore Dierdre MacFarlane (25:27, 215th) finished off the Owls squad.
Top-ranked Villanova placed first overall as a team with five runners in the top-10. Syracuse and host Penn State capped off the top-three.
The Temple women's cross country team has two weeks to prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championships, being held at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., on October 30.
