Freshman duo of Dorantes and Rutter leads Owls

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The freshman tandem of Stephanie Dorantes and Sarah Rutter led the Temple women's cross country team to a 13th place overall finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships, held Saturday morning in Schenley Park. Dorantes posted the Owls' top time over the 6k course, running 19:35 for 74th place.
"The team is definitely still moving in the right direction," commented assistant coach Matt Jelley. "Our best team average ever at an Atlantic 10 Championship was 20:50, and today we improved that by nearly 50 seconds."
Richmond took the crown with senior Nicol Traynor taking first place individually. La Salle and Dayton placed two and three, respectively.
Rutter cleared the hill-and-dale in a time of 19:39 to place 75th overall, finishing just behind Dorantes. Senior Rebecca Mims came in with the team's third-best time, placing 82nd in a time of 20:05.
"The two freshman stepped up and had a great day," said Jelley. "Rebecca was suffering with a sprained foot, and we couldn't have asked for more from those two."
Also faring well for Temple was sophomore Katherine Frank (20:19, 86th), senior Briana Linneman (20:39, 88th), sophomore Rayna Kratchman (20:44, 89th) and freshman Taylor Goldsworthy (20:55, 90th).
