- Announced by the conference today, three Temple men's soccer players have earned Atlantic 10 postseason honors. Sophomore Cody Calafiore
earned a nod to the All-Conference first team, while junior Tyler Witmer
was named honorable mention. Freshman Vaughn Spurrier
was also named an All-Rookie selection.
In his first year with the Cherry and White after transferring from Monmouth, Calafiore has been the spark the Owls' offense needed at the most critical times. Tying for the team lead in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14), the Howell, N.J. native netted a pair of goals in the Owls' 2-1 win at Dayton on October 15.
Witmer posted idential numbers to Calafiore and led the team in goals for the third consecutive year. Coming on strong at the end of conference play, the Wernersville, Pa. native four points in Temple's final weekend of play propelled the team to the third seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament. He also netted the golden goal in double-overtime to lift the Owls' to a 2-1 win over then-no.16 Charlotte on October 31.
Spurrier was named a preseason A-10 All-Rookie selection and backed it up with a tremendous collegiate debut to be selected a member of the All-Rookie team. Scoring four goals and assisting on two more, the Cleveland, Ohio native appeared in all 18 games for TU making 13 starts. Three of his four goals came during conference play, which he opened up with a goal and an assist against school rival Saint Joseph's.
Qualifying as the third seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Owls take on sixth-seeded Xavier at Charlotte's TransAmerica Field on Thursday, November 11 at 5:30 p.m.
