Lacrosse Hall of Famer Gail Cummings-Danson Chosen for U.S. Lacrosse Honor

Cummings-Danson will be inducted into Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA - Gail Cummings-Danson, already a member of the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame, has been selected as an inductee for the 2011 Class of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Cummings-Danson is one of eight who will be honored at the February 5, 2011 induction ceremony.

Six players and/or coaches with ties to Temple are already in the Eastern PA Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame. They are current Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen (Class of 2009), Amanda O'Leary (Class of 2007), Anne Sage (Class of 2003), Aggie Stegmuller (Class of 2002), Kathleen Geiger (Class of 2001) and Alice Putnam Willetts (Class of 1998).

Geiger, Putnam Willetts, Sage and Stegmuller are also members of the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame.

Cummings-Danson was the captain of Temple's 1988 NCAA championship lacrosse team and was the Most Valuable Player in the NCAA Tournament. She was a three-time All-American and three-time All-Region selection, as well as a GTE Academic All-American in 1988. During her four years as a member of the lacrosse team, Temple had three undefeated regular seasons and reached the final four of the NCAA Tournament four times.

Cummings-Danson holds numerous Owl records including most points/career (378), most points/season (118), most goals/career (289), most goals/season (88), most assists/career (89) and most assists/season (30).

She graduated cum laude in 1988 from the college of health, physical education, recreation and dance and holds master's and doctoral degrees from Temple.

Cummings-Danson played on Canadian National and World Cup Teams, as well as on USA National and World Cup Teams in the 80's and 90's. She was an assistant coach at Temple in 1988-89.

Already a member of the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame, Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, this will be Cummings-Danson's third hall of fame honor.
