PHILADELPHIA
– Sophomore Ramone Moore led all scorers with 13 points and senior Luis Guzman dished a career high seven assists as the #18/20 Temple men's basketball team topped Dayton, 49-41 at the Liacouras Center Wednesday night. With the win, the Owls are now 23-5, 11-2 in A-10 play and tied for first place in the conference with Richmond and Xavier.

Both teams struggled to find any offense in the first half, with the Flyers shooting 16 percent from the field to the Owls 29 percent.

Junior Lavoy Allen (9 pts, 17 rbs) led Temple with six first half points, pulling down 10 boards in the period.

The Owls held Dayton scoreless for over eight minutes (16:42-8:08), managing to build a 15-4 lead with a 9-0 run during the stretch. Temple would not trail the remainder of the contest.

Attempting to battle back before the break, Dayton cut their deficit to 19-13. The points allowed by TU tied the lowest in a half this season.

The Flyers posted four quick points out of the gate, but two jumpers from senior Ryan Brooks (11 pts, 3 rbs) quickly quieted their momentum.

With the lead cut to three with 15:33 left in the game, an 8-0 Temple run sparked by a jumper from junior Michael Eric and a three from sophomore Juan Fernandez gave the Owls their largest lead of the night, 33-22.

The Owls' lead would get no lower than four the rest of the game, holding Dayton to a season-best 29.3 points below their season average.  This marked the eighth time this year TU has held an opponent to more than 20 points below their average.

Moore would fuel second half scoring for the Owls, posting seven points. The sophomore has now led TU in scoring six out of their last seven contests.

The 41-points scored by Dayton was its lowest since 1997, and tied for its seventh lowest total since 1950. Senior Chris Wright led UD with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Owls next travel across town for a 2:00 p.m. showdown with Big 5 rival La Salle on February 28.
