PHILADELPHIA – After scoring with 45 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, the Temple lacrosse team ultimately lost 13-11 to La Salle after failing to notch a goal in the extra period. La Salle and Temple had been tied for third in the Atlantic 10 coming into the game, with both teams looking to secure an A-10 Tournament berth.

La Salle (8-6, 4-2) put itself in strong position to clinch that berth, the first in the history of the program for the Explorers. Temple almost certainly needs to win its final regular season conference game against Saint Joseph's (currently 0-5) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Owls will play host to the Hawks on Sunday (April 18) and the chances of them getting one of the four tournament berths will also depend on the outcome of other games this weekend. The A-10 Tournament is slated for April 23 and 25 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Sophomore Allison McWilliams and freshmen Kellee Pace and Stephany Parcell all scored two goals apiece for Temple, while senior Chelsea Rosiek notched one goal and two assists.

Temple and La Salle battled through the entire contest on what started out as a sunny, gorgeous day before turning dark and rainy near the end.

After trailing 3-0 to the Explorers early on, the Owls got things going on offense. Temple still trailed 4-2 at halftime, but came all the way back to tie the game at 4-4 with nine minutes elapsed in the second half.

After getting down again, 6-5, Temple scored four unanswered goals to take a 9-6 lead with 9:44 remaining. The final 10 minutes saw a flurry of scoring, with La Salle's Stefany McKee scoring three straight over a two-minute span to tie things up at 9-9.

Each team briefly held a lead in the final four minutes, but it was La Salle with a lead in the final minute after two goals from Melanie Sarcinello. The second of those came with 1:06 on the clock, but Temple's McWilliams got her second goal of the day on a free position shot with 45 seconds remaining to tie the score at 11-11 and force overtime.

Sarcinello and Taylor Ruland both scored for La Salle in overtime. One of Temple's shot attempts missed the mark, and the other was saved by the Explorers' goalkeeper Megan Corliss.
