The Temple Men's and Women's Crew teams takes to the waters of the Schuylkill River starting Friday for the 72nd Annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta. The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta is the largest intercollegiate rowing event in North America with over 100 schools and 3,500 competitors.
The Men's Varsity 8, winners of 19 Dad Vail Regattas, is looking for its first title since 2004. The 19th-ranked Owls are seeded second this year after winning gold at the Bergen Cup two weeks ago. Florida Tech, currently 21st in the USRowing Collegiate Poll, is the favorite. The Owls split two meetings with FIT, edging the Panthers by two-tenths of second at the Keuper Cup and falling by three-quarters of a length at the SIRA Regatta.
The Men's Second Varsity 8 is favored to repeat as Dad Vail champions
The women's varsity 8, coming off a third place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships, is seeded seventh.
On Saturday, the Friends of Temple Rowing alumni, parents, and friends group will host a tent during the regatta. The tent will be located at space #5 and will feature lunch, snacks beverages from about Noon through the end ofo the day's action. Look for a big white tent and the cherry and white Temple flags. This link gives you a general idea of where the alumni tents are.
Please feel free to bring friends, loved ones and even children to the festivities. The suggested donation for these festivities is $25 for anyone 12 and up, payable at the tent. The donation will cover the cost of the refreshments and the remainder will go to the fund for the new Temple Boathouse.
