VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After an impressive showing at last week's USFHA National Championships, Temple senior Sarah Dalrymple
has been invited to train with the USA National Field Hockey Team Development Squad in San Diego.
Dalrymple, the goalkeeper for the champion New Jersey Senior High Performance Center Team, posted two shutouts and started all five games as the team went 4-0-1 en route to winning the championship with a 1-0 victory. Temple head coach Amanda Janney
helped out as an assistant coach for the team over the course of its training for the event.
A total of 24 players were named to the Women's National Team, while 12 were chosen for the Developmental Squad. The teams will begin training on July 6th in preparation for international road matches against Spain and England.
"We had an outstanding pool of talented players to choose from and we had some tough decisions to make," said USA Head Coach Lee Bodimeade. "We made these selections with the 2012 Olympics in mind. We kept the core group from our Beijing squad, but we added some young players so that we can be where we need to be in 2012."
Also at the National Championships, Temple junior Bridget Settles
was recognized as the highest goal scorer in the juniors, with five goals in five games. The highest goal-scorer at the senior level tallied four goals. Settles was given a plaque by the National Team Coach during the Women's High Performance Banquet Dinner.
Settles, fellow junior Becca Keener
and sophomore Katie Briglia
all played for the New Jersey Junior High Performance Center team, while junior Kaylee Keener
played with the California Senior High Performance Center team. “They all earned great experience competing at that elite level,” said Janney.
