NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton has been tabbed to defend its Atlantic 10 volleyball title in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. Temple finished fourth in the conference in 2009 and is picked to finish fifth of the 10 teams in the 2010 preseason poll.
The Dayton Flyers claimed a share of the league's regular-season crown before edging Saint Louis in the finals of the 2009 A-10 Championship, 3-2, for their fifth title in the past seven years. UD seeks its seventh NCAA berth in eight seasons and returns all of its starters from last year's 30-4 squad.
Saint Louis is picked second after earning a share of the A-10 regular-season title for the second consecutive year and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
Seeking its first A-10 Championship since 2000, George Washington is picked third, followed by Xavier, Temple, Charlotte, Duquesne, Rhode Island, Fordham and La Salle.
The six-team A-10 Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 19-21 at the Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University.
Temple will be looking to overcome the loss of Yun Yi Zhang
, who led all players in NCAA Division I a year ago with 5.55 kills per set. The Owls return four starters from a team that advance to the semifinals of last year's A-10 Tournament.
