PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University
football team continued training camp on Tuesday at Edberg-Olson Hall.
Owl Outlook: Day 4 video
Owl Outlook is back for Day 4 of Training Camp, with today's focus being on the running back position, joining us for interviews today are quarterbacks Bernard Pierce
(Ardmore, Pa.) and Matt Brown
Pierce has obviously been the subject of substantial media attention after breaking on the scene in a big way in 2009, rushing for a Temple freshman record 1,361 yards and 16 touchdowns. Entering the 2010 season, Pierce is not only just on the Heisman Trophy radar (Pierce4Heisman.com
), but he is also an All-America, Doak Walker Award, and Maxwell Award candidate. The MAC Freshman Player of the Year in 2009 missed a large chunk of time in the latter part of the season due to an injured shoulder, but has made it part of his goals for the season to stay healthy and play in every game.
When Pierce went down, the Temple rushing attack hardly put on the breaks, because when Brown filled in for Pierce, the results were nearly the same. Brown, who started the year as a slot receiver before moving into the backfield, finished the season with 529 yards and five touchdowns on the ground on a mere 89 carries. The 5-5 Baltimore native made an impact on special teams as well as one of the teams leading kickoff returners.
Redshirt sophomore Ahkeem Smith
(Bethlehem, Pa.) provides quality depth at the position. A member of the 2008 recruiting class out of Liberty High School, Smith redshirted in 2009 but will be back in action this season. Joining them all in the backfield is Myron Myles
(Ambler, Pa.), who enters the fold after originally committing to Vanderbilt of the SEC. Myles graduated from Wissahickon High School, running for over 2,200 yards as a high school senior in 2009.
The Temple video staff will provide insight into the team's progress with video reports posted every day after practice.
Practices are closed to the general public.
Temple opens the 2010 season on Friday, Sept. 3 with Villanova at 5 p.m. in the second annual Mayor's Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
