PHILADELPHIA – Delaware's Melissa LeNoir's overtime goal gave the Blue Hens a 2-1 victory over the Temple field hockey team, handing the Owls their second-straight overtime loss. Temple started the season 4-0 but now stands at 4-2 overall, while Delaware improved to 3-3.
Amanda McCardell's pass from the right side set up LeNoir's shot that found the back of the net after 72 minutes of play on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.
Temple started slow offensively for the second straight game. The Owls were on the defensive for much of the first half. Delaware's Michelle Drummonds scored the first goal of the game eight minutes before halftime but Temple answered early in the second half as Bridget Settles
tied the game at 1-1, her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Owls were out shot 5-4 in the first half but reversed the margin in the second half, out-shooting Delaware 5-4.
The Blue Hens got off the lone shot and goal in the overtime period as the Owls failed to record a shot in the extra session.
Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple
was strong in goal despite the loss and recorded five saves on Delaware's 11 total shots.
The Owls return to the field tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against #15 Penn State in the third of a five-game homestand for TU.
