LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Elyse Burkert
and Jovana Radojevic
led the Temple volleyball offense as the Owls recorded a sweep of Rider on the road by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18. Temple, now 2-4 overall, out-hit Rider (1-4) .239 to .112 in the match.
Burkert led all players with 10 kills, and recorded her first career double-double by also tallying a match-high 12 digs.
Radojevic knocked down nine kills and Rikia Trischuk
recorded a double-double of 31 assists and 10 digs.
Up by just a point, 19-18 in the first set, Temple picked up the pace to close the set on a 6-1 run that included two service aces from Collin Wallace
The teams were tied a total of 16 times in a neck-and-neck second set, but a kill from Burkert gave Temple set point at 24-23, and Cayleigh Ashman
closed out the set with another kill for the Owls.
Temple led for nearly all of the third set, and closed out the match on an ace by Trischuk. The Owls struggled with service errors, committing 10 in the match, but also served up an impressive 11 aces as a team.
TU will be back in action this weekend after traveling to Montana. The Owls will face North Dakota at 6:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Sept. 10, and will also match up with Utah State and Montana at the tournament.
