With non-conference play coming to a close last Sunday, Temple men's soccer now dives into league play when it heads to Richmond on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. to open its Atlantic 10 Conference slate with the Spiders . The Owls will round out their opening A-10 weekend with a match at George Washington on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Temple is coming off a 1-0 win at Howard last Sunday, which capped a 4-5-0 record in non-conference play. Senior Tyler Witmer
and junior Cody Calafiore
are leading the way for the Owls with six points apiece. Witmer provided the only goal the Owls needed to secure sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Rosato
's second shutout victory of the season.
Entering A-10 play with only one win, the Spiders are looking to turn the page on a rough open to their season. Richmond's lone victory was a 5-1 defeat of Pittsburgh back on Sept. 18. Spencer Schiff leads the team with 15 points on the year, while Timmy Albright owns the team-lead in goals scored with four.
The Spiders used three goalkeepers this season. Thomas Hand has played a majority of the time in between the posts, where he has made 62 saves on the year.
For the second straight weekend, Owls will visit the nation's capital. Before hosting Temple on Sunday, the George Washington Colonials will commence A-10 play with the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Friday. GW is looking to get back in the win column for the first time since Sept. 17 when it knocked off Bryant, 3-2, at home. In their latest match, the Colonials lost on a heartbreaking goal in overtime to Wofford.
Yoni Berhanu and Seth Rudolph are tied for the team-lead in scoring with four goals and nine points each. Bailey Hanners has been able to generate a chunk of the GW offensive production, as he's dished out three assists this season. The Colonials have split time in net between goalkeepers Brendan Lafferty and Alejandro Almodovar.
