Temple Fans Enjoy a Cherry & White Night

Cherry & White Night Highlight Video

Temple fans had their first glimpse at the 2011-2012 men's and women's basketball teams during tonight's Cherry and White Night.

Cherry and White Night is Temple University's own version of the ever-popular Midnight Madness extravaganzas that other universities use to mark the beginning of the first official practice of the basketball season. In Temple's modified version of the event, it marks the first public appearance of the teams.

Temple students, alumni, fans and families all flocked to McGonigle Hall for three hours chock-full of entertainment.

For students, the excitement began the moment many walked through McGonigle's doors as Temple gave away many door prizes and freebies, such as Dunkin' Donuts gift cards.

Fan involvement was the key to the night's success with students, band members, cheerleaders and Diamond Gems alike all getting involved in a wide range of contests from “Simon Says” to the playground-staple Knock-Out shootout.

In what was perhaps the most unexpected twist of the evening, both the Temple men's and women's basketball teams, including a handful of coaches, joined together at center court to perform a hip hop dance choreographed by Temple's Diamond Gems dance team.

After the short dance interlude, it was back to basketball as the women's team took the court first for a 10-minute exhibition game. The men followed suit, and took to the hardwood after the ladies to showcase some of their fancy dunk skills.

Always a fan favorite, this year's Cherry and White Night did not disappoint, allowing fans inside access to their men's and women's teams while watching them participate in lighthearted contests both on and off the court.
