ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Temple Owls had a very busy day on Friday, the day before facing Wyoming in the 2011 Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
While the players started the day with meetings at their hotel, head coach Steve Addazio, and senior captains Adrian Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Tahir Whitehead (Newark, N.J.) addressed members of the media at the official bowl press conference at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Both teams, their bands, cheerleaders, administrators, and fans attended the bowl's kickoff luncheon at the Hard Rock, featuring guest speaker Archie Manning.
Following the luncheon, Temple departed for its final walk-thru at University Stadium.
In the late afternoon, Addazio and the four team captains-- Morkeith Brown (Harrisburg, Pa.), John Palumbo (Lyndhurst, N.J.), Robinson, and Whithead-- addressed fans at the bowl's Pep Rally and Battle of the Bands in Old Town Plaza. Hooter the Owl, the Diamond Marching Band, and the pep squad gave the Wyoming folks a taste of Philly.
While neither school was declared a winner of the well-attended event, it was evident that the winner would clearly be decided on the gridiron on Saturday.
Temple (8-4 overall, 5-3 MAC) and Wyoming (8-4, 5-2 MWC) kick off the bowl season on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Noon MT (2 p.m. ET) at University Stadium. ESPN will televise the game live in HD.
