Calafiore, Mollon and Witmer earn yearly honor
PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt-senior Bret Mollon, junior Tyler Witmer and sophomore Cody Calafiore have been named to the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star team. The trio, who were honored at the annual awards banquet on Tuesday night, were vital parts to the Owls' run to the Atlantic 10 Tournament this past season.
Mollon, the lone keeper named to the city all-star team, put together a seven win season in 2010 to move into sole possession of second place all-time on the Temple wins list with 25. He ranked second in the PS6 with a .90 goals against average, making 54 saves for a .761 save percentage. Leading the league with 19 starts, he put together six shutouts on the year.
In his first year with the Cherry and White after transferring from Monmouth, Calafiore was the spark the Owls' offense needed at the most critical times. Tying for the team lead in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14), the Howell, N.J., native netted a pair of goals in the Owls' 2-1 win at Dayton on October 15.
Witmer posted idential numbers to Calafiore and led the team in goals for the third consecutive year. Coming on strong at the end of conference play, the Wernersville, Pa., native tallied four points in Temple's final weekend of play propelling the team to the third seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. He also netted the golden goal in double-overtime to lift the Owls' to a 2-1 win over then-no.16 Charlotte on October 31.
