Temple Men's Tennis Takes 6-1 Decision at Monmouth

Box Score

Temple's men's tennis squad traveled to Monmouth on Sunday, February 20. The Owls defeated the host Hawks by a 6-1 count.

Temple got things started early with a quick win at second doubles when Kacper Rams and Dmitry Vizhunov defeated Jason Rothstein and Amar Suboleski, 8-3. Monmouth came back to win the third doubles match, which meant the doubles point would come down to number one. Filip Rams and Taylor Hairston teamed up to take down Laurence Heads and Ian Terpilowski in an exciting 9-7 match to give Temple the point.

In singles play, Filip Rams picked up where he left off in doubles and easily defeated Heads by a 6-2, 6-2 count at number one. After Monmouth got on the board with a win at third singles, the Owls went on to take every other match.

Mansur Gishkaev, Vizhunov and Hairston each won in straight-sets at their flights. Kacper Rams rounded out the scoring with his win at number two by way of a super tiebreaker. Rams dropped the first set to David Sherwood, 6-4, but came back to win the second, 6-2. He then took the win with a 10-5 win in the super tiebreaker.

“The men rebounded nicely after the loss to George Washington last week,” said coach Steve Mauro. “They came out strong today. Filip Rams was the outstanding performer of the day, playing very solid in both singles and doubles.”

The Owls are 6-3 on the year and will be back in action on March 7, when they host Hofstra at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m.
