McLaughlin named Gymnast of the Week, Aguiar Rookie of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Two Temple men's gymnasts have earned recognition from the ECAC for solid performances this past weekend.  Senior Patrick McLaughlin has been named ECAC Gymnast of the Week, while sophomore Zachery Aguiar has been honored as Rookie of the Week by the conference.

A native of Shrewsbury, Pa., McLaughlin worked five events for the Owls in their Alumni homecoming and final home meet against Navy at McGonigle Hall.  It was the first time he worked five events since his season ending ankle injury against Springfield on February 13, 2010.  A co-captain, McLaughlin led the Owls with three first place finishes - vault (15.7), parallel bars (14.8) and horizontal bar (14.5).  He also worked pommel horse and rings.

A native of Lowell, Mass., Aguiar is in his first year of competition and has worked three events for the Owls.  His score on rings (14.0) counted for Temple in the team's win over Navy this past weekend.

The Owls have a weekend off to prepare for the ECAC Championships, being held April 2-3 at Illinois-Chicago.
