Owls look to claim title after taking second a year ago
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's gymnastics team looks to reclaim the conference title as the Owls travel to Chicago, Ill., for the 2011 ECAC Championships. The Owls, currently ranked third in the conference and 14th nationally with a four-score average of 337.025, compete in the team finals on April 2 (2:00 p.m.) and vie for individual titles on April 3 (1:00 p.m.).
Temple hit a rough spot in its last appearance in Chicago, but has since turned up the intensity and rebounded to place first in the last two regular season competitions. The Owls had held the top ranking in the conference nearly all season, but currently sit third behind top-ranked William & Mary (338.100) and Illinois-Chicago (337.750).
Redshirt-senior Patrick McLaughlin has been the most consistent gymnasts for the Owls over the second-half of the season. McLaughlin ranks second in the conference on high bar and parallel bars, with four-score averages of 14.225 and 14.425, respectively.
Senior Adam Al-Rokh has added to the Owls' points on nearly every apparatus, picking up valuable points on pommel horse for Temple. He currently ranks sixth in the conference with a four-score average of 13.850. Senior Taylor Brana has been the most consistent gymnast on rings for Temple, posting a four-score average of 14.050 which ranks seventh in the EIGL. Brana was one of two Owls to take home an individual title at last year's ECAC Championships, winning gold on parallel bars.
The ECAC Championships, being held at Illinois-Chicago, begin with the team finals on April 2 (2:00 p.m.) and end with the individual finals on April 3 (1:00 p.m.).
