PHILADELPHIA – Junior Shey Peddy
was named the 2010-11 Temple Women's Basketball Team's Most Valuable Player at the Owl Club Annual Awards Banquet held Wednesday, April 13 on the main campus at the Diamond Club in Mitten Hall.
Junior BJ Williams
was given the team's Most Improved Award, while senior Qwedia Wallace
and Peddy were co-recipients of the team's Top Defensive Player Award. Sophomore Natasha Thames
earned the Henry Sklar Award, presented to the player who displays outstanding academic achievement, leadership, good citizenship and dedication.
Senior Marli Bennett
was the recipient of the annual Owl Club Academic Award for her success in the classroom.
The team finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 24-9, and a 13-1 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Temple earned a berth in its eighth-straight NCAA Tournament, and advanced to its second-straight NCAA Second Round.
Peddy was the team's leader with 14.1 points per game, 4.2 assists per game and 3.2 steals per game. Impressively, she also ranked second with 5.1 rebounds per game. Peddy was named to the Atlantic 10 First Team and All-Defensive Team, while Kristen McCarthy
earned A-10 Second Team honors and Wallace was named to the A-10 Third Team.
Peddy, McCarthy and Wallace all surpassed the 1,000-point scoring mark in their careers during the course of the season. Wallace set the program's career record for three-pointers with 162, and Peddy set the single-season record for steals with 104.
