McLaughlin And Tighe Qualify To Compete In NCAA Championships On Friday

McLaughlin earns bid on high bar and parallel bars, Tighe on parallel bars
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Temple men's gymnasts redshirt-senior Patrick McLaughlin and sophomore Alex Tighe have each earned bids to compete in the 2011 NCAA Championships on Friday after having placed in the top six individually of non-qualifying teams from both sessions on Thursday at Ohio State's St. John Arena. The pair will be competing tomorrow for a shot at advancing to the individual event finals on Saturday.
McLaughlin led the Owls on parallel bars with a score of 14.800, followed closely by Tighe with a score of 14.750. On high bar, McLaughlin placed eighth out of all competitors with a mark of 14.700.
Also competing for Temple but not advancing was sophomore Brett Statman on high bar (13.650), junior Chris Mooney on high bar (11.450) and floor (14.300), junior Blake Collins on rings (14.450), senior Jesse Kitzen-Abelson on pommel horse (13.700) and freshman John Leonard on vault (15.400).
McLaughlin and Tighe will compete tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. (CT), with ESPN2 broadcasting Friday's action on tape delay.
