Seven Owls Selected For 2011 National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics National Qualifier

McLaughlin & Kitzen-Abelson among the seven selected
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Seven Temple men's gymnasts have been selected to compete in the 2011 National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics National Qualifier, to be held April 14-16 at St. John Arena on the campus of The Ohio State University. Seniors Patrick McLaughlin and Jesse Kitzen-Abelson, along with juniors Chris Mooney and Blake Collins, sophomores Brett Statman and Alex Tighe, and freshman John Leonard, have all qualified to compete in the meet.
McLaughlin will be competing on three events for the Owls - pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar. Heading into the competition, McLaughin owns the top qualifying scores on both parallel bars and high bar. Mooney joins McLaughlin as a three-apparatus competitor, joining him on high bar and also taking on floor exercise and vault. Statman will make appearances on vault and high bar, while Kitzen-Abelson goes to work on pommel horse, Tighe on parallel bars and Leonard on vault.
The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 14 at St. John Arena on the campus of The Ohio State University. Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams,plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session. Final competitions will take place April 15-16, also at Ohio State.
