PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's soccer has announced that it has named seniors Niki Conn, Samantha Farlow and junior Kate Yurkovic its team captains for the upcoming 2011 campaign. All three will serve as the leaders and mentors for their teammates this season.
A season ago, Conn received Atlantic 10 Conference honorable mention for the second consecutive season after leading the Owls in scoring with 24 points (10 goals and four assists), ranking her fourth in the conference. Conn has started every game for the Owls in the last two years at either forward or midfield. In Temple's lone conference victory in 2010, Conn scored both goals needed for the Owls to defeat Rhode Island.
Farlow started all but one game last season at the defender position for the Owls, helping her unit secure three shutouts. In a 2-1 win at Vermont, Farlow showed her knack of generating production in the offensive zone, having a hand in both Temple goals with two assists on the day.
Yurkovic was vital to the Owls offense last season, as she tied her sister, Alicia, for second place on the team in scoring with 14 points (five goals and four assists). Against Howard in 2010, Yurkovic exploded for seven points in the match, having two goals and three assists. She played a critical part in a handful of Temple wins last season, finishing the year with three game-winning goals.
The Owls get the 2011 season underway Aug. 20 in New Rochelle, N.Y. when they take on Iona at 1:00 p.m.
