NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Bridget Settles
had a hand in all three of the Owls' goals last week while Lock Haven's Leslie Ahern netted a hat trick, earning each Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week Honors. La Salle's Lisa Schaffer made nine saves against Towson to earn her first-ever Rookie of the Week accolade the league announced Monday.
Settles, the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, had a hand in each of the Owls' three goals, scoring two and assisting on one. The senior co-captain from Haddon Township, N.J., scored the game-winner with three minutes remaining in the Owls' 2-1 victory at Delaware and went on to score Temple's lone goal of the game in a 2-1 loss at Drexel. The forward has scored 10 of the Owls' 15 goals so far this season.
Ahern, a senior forward for the Haven, helped the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 week, scoring a team-best four goals and recording nine points. In a 6-0 win over Robert Morris, she netted a hat trick and an assist by setting up the first goal on a penalty corner, tallying 7 points in the match. Later in the week, speedy Ahern put LHU up 1-0 against Bucknell, but the Haven couldn't hang on to the win, falling 2-1 in overtime.
