Volleyball Suffers Setback on the Road at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Temple volleyball ran into a tough opponent in Duquesne on Friday night, losing in three sets to the Dukes (17-6, 5-1) on the road. The Owls were led by Elyse Burkert with 12 kills and Gabriella Matautia with a double-double of 10 kills along with 10 digs.

Temple (14-6, 4-2) lost the match by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-20. Chelsea Tupuola led all players in the match with 18 digs, and also served up two aces.

The Owls hung with Duquesne in two of the three sets, but the Dukes continued to put sets away on the strength of their offensive and blocking ability.

Allison Foschia and Arielle Love combined for 30 kills for Duquesne.

Temple held a three-point lead at 16-13 in the first set, but once the Dukes rallied to take the lead they held it through to the end of the set.

In the second set the Owls fell into a seven-point hole at 10-3. They recovered to narrow the margin to three at 16-13, but fell victim to a big Duquesne run as the Dukes closed out the set.

The final set was the closest of the three, and the Owls were still within a point at 21-20 before Duquesne's Nora Young took charge with a block and two kills over four points that ended the set and the match.

Temple will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 14 in a 1:00 p.m. match at George Washington.
